Videographer John Tombe captured a mysterious flickering “a̳l̳i̳e̳n̳-like creature” in Bristol Harbour.
Alex Gordon-Lennox, 22, said, “It was just floating down the harbour.” It’s nothing like I’ve ever seen before. I only noticed it because it was blinking and making such a loud noise.
I was out with some friends that night, so we watched it float down the river before it vanished. It had the appearance of a jellyfish or a squid. It was fantastic.”
“The creature appeared to be very organic, and it moved fluidly through the water as if it were a creature rather than, say, a computer designed to resemble a jellyfish,” says Andrew Spooner, a software engineer from Bristol.
Dr. Steve Simpson of Bristol University’s School of Biological Sciences says, “It’s really interesting – I’m not sure what to make of it.” It could be a rare jellyfish species or a marine salp.
Several marine animals have biological illuminating abilities and can cause themselves to flash. It’s most likely a sea creature dragged into the harbour by the winds, or a sea creature seeking refuge from the rough seas.
Meanwhile, experts disagree about what the uploader, John Tombe, has captured on video.
